A Family Member/Friend Made Website

Pros

– Again, you save money. A family member/friend has your best interest at heart. If they are a professional designer, you may be in for a treat and a website that will please you and your visitors.

Cons

– If, however, you are displeased, how will you tell this family member/friend without losing their love and/or friendship. Will they be willing to maintain the website? How comfortable will you be telling them what to do and not to do?

Approach #5. Novice Website by Some Do-Gooder

Pros

– Again you will be saving money. This may be a novice who has just completed a course and wants to create your website for his or her “portfolio.” Or, it may be someone who is starting out and charging much less than the going rate. Or someone who feels that everyone should have a website (YES!), so will help you achieve that goal.

Cons

– Oftentimes, even though the novice means well, they just don’t have enough experience with the wiles of the web.

Revamp for quality hotel in top location

0 Comments | Lincolnshire Echo, Jul 28, 2010 | by Mel West

AN HISTORIC city hotel will be given a makeover, thanks to ambitious new owners Paul Catlow and Saera Ahmad.

The couple plan to develop the Castle Hotel, in Bailgate, Lincoln, and are currently working alongside local architects and interior designers to refurbish all areas of the hotel and restaurant over the next six to nine months.

The Grade II listed building was built on the site of Lincoln’s Roman Forum in 1852. Starting life as a school, the building has also served as an evening institute, parish rooms, army cadet centre, Sunday school, riding school, occupation centre and repair workshop before becoming a hotel in 1979.

It enjoys a good reputation and was recently awarded the highest quality rating of any Lincoln hotel at 80 per cent by the AA.

The new owners plan to build on this success by investing heavily in refurbishing the interior of the hotel, while increasing the capacity from its current 20 bedrooms by maximising the interior space of the building and taking on additional staff as the business grows. The first phase of refurbishment will be starting this year and will involve upgrading and updating the design and layout of the bedrooms, with a traditional-yet-modern theme to complement the building’s Victorian exterior.

Although neither of the new owners has a background in hospitality, they are looking to use their experience in the marketing sector to build on the Castle Hotel’s current reputation and help the business realise its full potential.

Paul has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and was a shareholder and director of the Manchester-based marketing company MediaVest Manchester Ltd. Lincoln-born Saera has a background in advertising sales, having worked for major broadcasters and publishers, including Emap Radio and News International.

Paul said: “In 2008, we decided it was time for a fresh start, so I sold my shares in MediaVest and we made our escape to the country.

“Saera was brought up in Lincoln, so we decided to move back to the area where we have bought and renovated an old vicarage.

“Since then we have had our first baby and were looking for a new challenge that we could apply our marketing skills to.

“Over the past few years, Bailgate has seen a lot of excellent development and when we first saw the Castle Hotel was up for sale we saw a great opportunity.

“It is a stunning building in a great location for both business visitors and holidaymakers and with Bailgate enjoying continued development we knew that the time was right to take on the challenge.

“Our vision is to help the business realise its full potential through refurbishment of all areas, new branding and a strong marketing campaign

Engineer hopes invention helps him to clean up

0 Comments | South Wales Evening Post, Jul 28, 2010 | by RUPERT HALL

AN engineer from Neath is hoping to clean up with a unique shower bracket.

Plumbing and heating engineer Stuart Gibby had been looking to China to manufacture his product.

But the 40-year-old has decided to research options closer to home, and has secured a manufacturer, packager, graphic designer and web designer within Wales.

Mr Gibby’s product will now be made by Linear Plastics in Pontypridd.

It will be packaged by Platt Packaging, based at the Rassau Industrial Estate in Ebbw Vale.

Design for the artwork on the packaging is being carried out by Swansea’s Graphic Realm Ltd.

Web Mr Gibby is also working with former Neath-based web designers The Sheep Boys on an official website to market his shower bracket.

He has received funding from Neath Port Talbot Council to pay for trials of the product.

“The only thing we have had to source outside of Wales is the chroming,” said Mr Gibby. “There are only two companies in the UK who specialise in it.”

Mr Gibby has chosen DMS, in Kidderminster, which currently works with clients including Bentley and Land Rover, to carry out the chroming.

He said: “This product is supporting jobs in Wales.”

Mr Gibby will be primarily selling his product online, but he has also been in talks with department store Leekes with a view to marketing it in-store.

He is currently still running his own plumbing and heating engineering business HPS, in London Road, Neath, but hopes his invention will become his sole source of income.

He said: “It is my intention to sell some products and then use that as leverage to encourage investment from the dragons on Dragon’s Den. They could open doors for me that I could only dream about opening.”

Mr Gibby is also working on further inventions which he is hoping will win funding from the Assembly.

The better contact that the bleach has with your teeth, the better the effects you’ll get from the whitening procedure.

Most over the counter tray systems use hydrogen peroxide instead of carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is safe, but it doesn’t bleach as quickly. In most cases, if you’re using any at-home system, it will take several sessions a day for several weeks to achieve the same results that your dentist can get in his office in two-three ninety minute sessions. However, you?ll pay for the speed – a doctor’s office whitening treatment can cost you as much as $500 per session. An at-home system may cost as little as $30 for the total treatment.

Teeth Whitening Strips
A second popular method of whitening teeth is the use of teeth whitening strips. Like over the counter tray systems, the active ingredient in teeth whitening strips is hydrogen peroxide.

TRIPS TO YOUR ATTENDING PHYSICIAN:

If your Lost Wage Document, which was executed by the company you work for, states that you didn?t work during the same period you were being treated by your attending physician, that?s all the proof you need to be compensated for your ?lost earnings?.

HOWEVER: If your doctor didn?t treat you any longer after a certain date (even though stated and detailed in your Lost Wage Document) than your chances of recovery for your lost wages, after that particular date, are minus zip!

BACK TO WORK BUT STILL TREATING:

If you?ve returned to work, but you?re still being treated by your attending physician, that Lost Wage Document should clearly state the date and hours you missed when you had to leave work and make that day trip to see your doctor and/or receive treatment.

BACK TO WORK HOWEVER NOT BACK AT YOUR USUAL, NORMAL, ROUTINE ASSIGNMENT:

During my almost 40 years in the business of insurance claims I often ran into a situation where the claimant insisted they were unable to return to their old job and this caused them to have a lesser income.

So you can know exactly

‘what they want??

#6

you don?t have to talk too much, usually your client will get boring when you talk too much about details of your products. And soon they will have a less attention to hear you. Keep them talk for you as long as possible. You just need to listen to them and focus on it. Soon they will get easy to know who you are and they will do what you want them do.

#7

one thing you must keep in your mind for a long term relationship. Don’t think that your customer must buy your stuff in the first time meeting. You can not

force

them to buy your product. But you can force them to trust you and paid attention to you.

Water main break disrupts life in Montgomery County

0 Comments | Capital, Jun 17, 2008

ROCKVILLE (AP) – Montgomery County has ordered some 1,200 restaurants to close after a weekend water main break, fearing the water could be contaminated.

Patrick Lacefield, a spokesman for the county, said last night that the order to close food service facilities outside the Beltway came in consultation with the state Department of Health. The only exception was food sold in original, sealed packages and fresh fruits and vegetables not washed or misted at the food service facilities.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission also issued a boil water advisory for all Montgomery customers north of the Capital Beltway. The advisory is expected to last for at least three days as water pressure is restored and water quality is tested.

He said although the broken main had been repaired, the closures were ordered by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett because of “overriding health concerns.”

A break in a 48-inch water main cut off water service to a large area of northern Montgomery County yesterday, closing county buildings and forcing residents to take emergency conservation efforts such as halting dishwashers and washing machines in their homes.

Jim Nuestadt, a spokesman for the WSSC, said a large number of people were affected, but he didn’t have a specific number.

Several county buildings in places such as Wheaton, Gaithersburg and Germantown closed because of a lack of water and the county’s recreation department shut all camps yesterday. The county school system said some buildings with little or no water pressure were also closing.

The WSSC said the restrictions prohibit outside watering, filling swimming pools or running washing machines and dishwashers across the affected area

Remember what I said about the author’s bias earlier? You want to find a career quiz that asks “horizontal” questions rather than “vertical” ones. For example, a horizontal question might be: “Do you enjoy working against deadlines?”, while I vertical question might be “do you prefer the precision of hand tools versus the speed of power tools?”.

Horizontal career quiz questions are designed to explore general career likes and dislikes while “vertical” questions tends to try and shoehorn you into a particular career path. Now don’t get me wrong, there is a place for a vertical career quiz. For example, if you are thinking about a career in woodworking, and you are trying to decide if you want to be a cabinet maker or a house framer, a vertical career quiz is exactly what you need.

The important thing to remember is to never make a career decision based solely upon the results of some career quiz that you happen to come across.
